PCT
Definition: Patent Cooperation Treaty - provides a mechanism by which an applicant can file a single application that, when certain requirements have been fulfilled, is equivalent to a regular national filing in each designated Contracting State.
Attorney
Definition: An individual who is a member in good standing of the bar of any United States court or the highest court of any State.
Status
Definition: The legal standing of a patent or patent application, i.e. whether it is pending, lapsed or still protected etc.
Divisional Application
Definition: A later application for an independent or distinct invention disclosing and claiming (only a portion of and) only subject matter disclosed in the earlier or parent application.
Infringe
Definition: To make, use or sell the patented item or process within the country covered by the patent, without permission or license from the patentee.
Combination Patent
Definition: A patent granted for an invention that unites existing components in a novel way.
